Job Description:

The primary responsibility of this Materials Manager is to coach, mentor, educate, and train other personnel to be able to effectively handle the responsibilities of this position.  The incumbent is responsible for the communication and coordination between Supply Management and the Nogales, Mexico factory to ensure that uninterrupted flow of parts to meet production schedule is accomplished.  Manage, direct, oversee, and implement materials operations and strategy to ensure the achievement of departmental goals, including Master Production Schedule, Bill of Materials and Routings, Stores, Purchasing, Receiving and Cycle Counting. This includes production, quality, safety, and cost objectives and developing and reviewing reports and financial statements to determine progress toward objectives.  Revise objectives and plans according to current conditions.  Direct and coordinate best practices for new and continuing operations to maximize return on investment.

Organizational Relationship:

This position reports directly to the Nogales, Mexico Plant Manager. This position works closely with the Vice President of Operations, Accounting, Manufacturing, New Product Development, and Supply Management.  Reporting to this position are the positions of Material Supervisor, Material Stores, Planner, Scheduler, Buyer, Commodity Manager, Bill of Material & Routing Coordinator.   

Key Result Area:

Materials Management 50%; Staff Development 20%; Customer Service 20%; Budget/Expense Management 10%.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Acts as liaison between Plant Manager and Vice President of Manufacturing and Field Operational Managers by conducting Sales Operation Planning Meetings.
  • Reviews and modifies the production plan, adjusts planning bills regularly, updates mix statistics and other master scheduling related issues.
  • Review and modify delivery schedule, lot sizing parameters, workorder lead times, safety stocks, and other types of parts policy.  Control product lead-time schedule to the sales field.
  • Review and correct bill of material and routing errors, nomenclature errors, and other scheduling related issues.
  • Monitor obsolescence of inventory and make recommendations regarding disposition.
  • Establish accountability and goals of Supervisors, Bill of Material and Routing Coordinator, Scheduler, Planner, Buyer, Commodity Manager, and Cycle Counter.
  • Directs the receipts, storage, and delivery of inventory in the plant.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies including health, safety, environmental, and security.
  • Create and maintain operation budget.
  • Act as a liaison between all engineering functions, manufacturing, supply chain management to ensure a quality process and product by managing the Product Change Control (PCC) system.
  • Act as a liaison between Customer Service, Marketing and Sales Functions, and Manufacturing to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze MRP system’s integrity.
  • Structure and create planning bills, which allow Supply Management to plan and procure all essential materials in order to meet corporate drivers.
  • Direct the activities of the production planning functions.  Coordinates the production schedule with plant and operations management.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as described in the quality system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager in support of departmental goals.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidate Knowledge,  Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills or experience with personal computers, including electronic E-mail, personal scheduling, word processing and electronic spreadsheet skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or ERP systems preferred.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • A minimum of 7-10 years professional experience in manufacturing or materials management environment required.
  • Experience with Mexico manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated materials supervisory and management experience required for a least 5 years.
  • Knowledge of MRP, JIT, Inventory Management, Master Scheduling, and Supply Management / Purchasing.
  • Experience with Lean methodologies.
