Job Summary:

Our client is a global leader in electrical and digital building infrastructures with over 40,000 employees worldwide and over $6 billion USD in sales. Our client currently seeks a VSM - Fabrication to lead the plastic injection molding and high speed progressive die metal stamping units for a large manufacturing campus in Tijuana with multiple plants.

Position Responsibilities:

·         Manage and direct the value stream team to effectively execute all aspects of the manufacturing plan and to meet agreed upon objectives in Safety, Quality, Delivery / Service, Cost, and Inventory for plastic injection molding (with over 40 plastic injection molding machines: 80 to 250 Ton) and High Speed Progressive Die Metal Stamping (with over 9 machines) areas.    

·          Lead the daily activities of production with over 120 employees (will grow to 150) for plastic injection molding and High Speed Progressive Die Metal Stamping. Also supervise process engineers and technicians, quality personnel and planner driving  root-cause analysis and improvement proposals.

·         Build plastic injection molding competence in the team and support groups. Technically oversee validations of new products/ molds.

·         Be responsible for the corrective & preventive maintenance of molds and coordinate design and outsourcing of tools and fixtures to support the production process.

·         Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of high speed progressive die metal stamping machines.

·         Create continuous improvement proposal to increase productivity, quality and availability.

·         Report periodically OEE (KPI) results and improvement actions to the management team.

·         Coordinate validation of mold, equipment and product changes

·         Ensure a safe work environment for all employees through implementation and maintenance of company directed safety programs, compliance with OSHA/ Mexican  Law and other regulatory requirements, and promotion of a strong preventative safety culture. 

·         Initiate and direct the planning for current and future requirements for manpower, equipment, and space to ensure value stream goals are met.  

·         Ensure proper collection and reporting of data necessary to track performance of the manufacturing operation against plan, identify root causes of issues, and support problem solving efforts. 

·         Implement effective systems of control for labor, overtime, capital, and operating expenditures spending.

·         Eliminate waste throughout the manufacturing operations through implementation of Lean tools and processes, driving a continuous improvement culture, and promoting employee engagement at all levels of the plant. 

·         Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.

·         Manage production supervisors to accomplish operational goals and objectives. Provide leadership, training and development for these individuals.

·         Administer plant policies in a firm, fair and consistent manner.  Conduct regular meetings with all employees to ensure good, team work and cooperation throughout the manufacturing operation and between facilities and functions.

·         Will lead in the transfer of molds into the Tijuana plant and the transfer of over 35 additional plastic injection molding machines into the Tijuana plant.

·         Establish and maintain premium quality and customer service at all times.

Candidate Experience & Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Manufacturing Operations or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years varied manufacturing experience including direct supervision of   hourly and salaried employees.
  • Solid experience in a similar position such as Operations Manager, Molding Manager, Senior Production Manager or Value Stream Manager.
  • Must have strong background with plastic injection molding. Experience with high speed progressive metal stamping is preferred (Cincinati or Minster a plus).
  • Scientific molding experience a plus.
  • Production and equipment transfer experience.
  • Must posses Financial acumen
  • Must have demonstrated experience in applying Lean tools and practices and driving a strong Lean / Continuous improvement culture.
  • Desirable to have experience on Mexican operation, low-mid volume  and high mix.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities. Able to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, and have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, ERP.
  • Must be Bilingual. Fluent in Spanish and English 80%+
