Our client is a global leader with number one global market share in the manufacturing and distribution of consumer products for residential and office sectors. This award winning company seeks a Plant Manager to supervise and lead all manufacturing and related functions of the plant.  Directly supervises the following groups: Production, Production Planning and Materials Control, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Personnel and Office Management. Maintains a total control for satisfactory production, profitability, quality and the wellbeing of all employees (over 650) at this Tijuana site.

Candidates must have a strong leadership presence and proven success motivating a workforce in a labor intensive environment. The Plant Manager will lead all operational functions of the site ensuring alignment to Corporate Values. This hands-on leader will be accountable for planning and allocating resources as required to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction in a continuously changing and highly accountable environment.

Main Tasks:

1.  Creates corporate goals/objectives and is accountable for a high level of schedule completion, profitability, quality and human relations. Must strategically apply tactics to achieve and develop these goals as described and listed in the plant manager’s ROI’s.

2.  Directs steering committees and high performance teams to achieve the aforementioned corporate goals and objectives.

3.  Creates budgets and authorizes action for capital expenditures and employee staffing.

4.  Reviews employee performance and authorizes wage increases.

5.  Plans for future needs for production in terms of equipment and staffing.

6.  Participates in long range corporate planning for factories.

7.  Manage the rewards and recognition program and maintain high morale.

8.  Develop policies and procedures for all employees.

9.  Manage the incentive pay/gain sharing initiatives.

10. Responsible for any special projects assigned by management.

11. Acts as company representative to the community.

Candidate Specifications:

Skills  Required (Technical, Communication, Interpersonal Abilities, etc.):

  • Must have thorough knowledge of Manufacturing Excellence, TQM (Total Quality Management), TPM (Total Product Maintenance), JIT, DFT (Demand Flow Technology), CI (Continuous Improvement), Production and Inventory Control, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Personnel procedures and Order Entry procedures.  Must have knowledge of product lines, familiarity with sales department and familiarity with accounting procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of WCP (World Class Principles): Lean, Continuous Improvement, etc.
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate competing alternatives (concensus builder) and determine point of view. 
  • High level of inquisitiveness in many areas.
  • Can see multiple possible solutions to a problem; stays mentally open choosing the “best solution”.
  • Empathetic leader able to win trust and possessing high emotial intelligence.
  • Good listener, respectful and possessing good people skills.

Communication Requirements:

  • Written and verbal ability to correspond with a wide variety of individuals or groups.
  • Must be able to negotiate under stress.
  • Hands-on and collaborative Leadership Style.
  • Strong problem solving skills (root cause analysis).
  • Strong presence and proven success motivating a workforce.

Required Experience and Education:

  • University Degree – BA or BS or equivalent experience, Master’s Degree Desirable 
  • At least 7+ years of experience as a Plant Manager in a manufacturing plant.
  • 7-10 Years of Strong Leadership experience in a labor intensive production/manufacturing environment in Mexico.
  • Experience in Labor Management, Quality, Lean, and Continuous Improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Financial acumen. Previous operational Profit and Loss accountability, budgets, and variance reporting
  • Master’s Degree Desirable
  • Some travel required

Supervisory Responsibilities (personnel supervision, budgets, performance appraisal, etc.):

Subordinates include a number of managers and superintendents along with a variety of support staffs.

Coach, teach and mentor employees to facilitate their long-term development, career path alignment for future growth opportunities.
