Our client is one of the largest manufacturers of interconnect products in the world. The Company designs, manufactures and markets electrical, electronic and fiber optic connectors, coaxial and flat-ribbon cable, and interconnect systems. The primary end markets for the Company's products are communications and information processing markets, including cable television, cellular telephone and data communication and information processing systems; aerospace and military electronics; and automotive, rail and other transportation and industrial applications.

JOB SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Process/Product Engineer to join our team in support of our growth in Worldwide High Speed I/O Cable Development, specifically SFP connectors. The position will be located in Mexicali, B.C. Mexico. As a Process / Product Engineer, the candidate would be the technical expert for the SFP cable product lines on our NPI team supporting/collaborating with Development Engineering. Responsible for product quality, reliability and integrity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform failure analysis on defects from product applications and certain manufacturing processes specific to SFP products.

  • Participation / integration with product designers in support of design reviews, qualification, testing and introduction of new products and product derivatives

  • Customer focal point in support of technical product information, product applications and general guidance

  • Identify and facilitate a variety of project initiatives such as cost improvement, overall quality and product performance

  • Assist in the successful transition of products and processes from NPI facility to volume manufacturing into low cost regions

  • Support the product design effort in mechanical analysis such as tolerance analysis, FEA, materials analysis, failure analysis and creating test plans

  • Support machining and fixture design

  • Collaborate with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing personnel, supporting the development and validation of product prototypes thru pilot production, as well as interfacing with beta-site customers.

  • Collaborate with NPI team to help optimize design of SFP/QSFP cables to ensure manufacturability, testability, cost and quality. (DFM-Design for Manufacturability)

  • Produce detailed analysis of failures to determine root cause and corrective actions to manufacturing process and/or product design

  • Develop, define and document the manufacturing processes and tooling required for building high speed I/O cables

  • Train and support manufacturing personnel as needed

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST HAVE Experience and ability to perform disciplined engineering problem solving on manufacturing processes and product design of SFP/QSFP Cables or similar
  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering, or Materials Science degree or similar. Master of Science is desirable.

  • Ability to apply analytical and statistical approach to problem solving and process improvement

  • Able to lead and manage product/process development and transition to production

  • Ability to support manufacturing tooling and fixtures design.

  • Ability to communicate with technical & non-technical people

  • Ability to work in team environment

  • Organized and self-motivated with a willingness to learn

  • Fluent in English and Spanish

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of copper alloys and high performance engineering thermoplastics would be a plus

  • Basic understanding of electrical connectors
