Publicly Traded and Leading Global World Class Consumer Products Manufacturer is looking for a Seasoned Materials Manager to lead all efforts in a complex state of the art operation located in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position reports to the Plant Director and has the overall responsibility for managing strategic purchasing, production and material planning, inventory control, warehouse, shipping and receiving, import-export and component supply at the plant to ensure packaging lines have materials to run and ensure we meet service targets while reducing on hand inventory at the plant site. The Materials Manager will have experienced direct reports and will manage $6.5 million dollars in inventory for components and raw material, will also manage more than 60 different suppliers for raw and pack.
  • Provide leadership to Materials Planners to ensure they utilize our current MRP system in the correct way to ensure raw and pack materials are ordered and maintained to ensure supply.
  • Manage DOH strategies on all raw and pack items to reduce warehouse space at the facility while ensuring the correct materials are available to support processing and packaging lines.
  • Ensures department Planners utilizes the MRP system to order raw and pack materials for the site.
  • Manages and approves all obsolescence requests for raw and pack and works to reduce and minimize the waste as to limit exposure so we maintain or reduce the obsolescence budget for the site.
  • Works with Purchasing to ensure correct MOQ's are in place to balance cost and inventory.
  • Develops Rough Cut Capacity Planning for all key items needed by the plant site and then works with Purchasing to ensure an acceptable C/D Ratio.
  • Develops Rough Cut Capacity Planning for all the managed lines and then put action plans in place to guarantee an acceptable C/D Ratio.
  • Provides MRP Training for Planners and others at the plant site and is the Trainer for sites that bring in new Planners.
  • Works with IS on improvements to the current MRP system to improve the flow of information to all plant sites.
  • Communicates information and details of raw and pack items to the required departments at the plant site.

Qualifications, Job skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Must have 15 or more years as a Materials Manager with actual hands on Planning and Strategic Purchasing at a manufacturing site. Experience in Demand Planning is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP and DRP systems to be able to train others in the correct use.
  • Maintains proper records for all raw and pack material planning facets at the site.
  • Actively participates in a team concept environment in all facets of the job.
  • Planning based on ABC Principles.
  • Manage phase in-phase outs to ensure the least possible obsolescence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Materials Manager.
  • Follow Hazardous Waste, General waste and Recycled Waste management and Disposal procedures. Supports Safety, health and Environmental by complying Company policies and procedures regarding safety and employee conduct.
  • Monitors and controls budget and expenses for components and raw material.
  • Evaluates Safety Stock in house in order to optimize inventory value, production lines efficiency and customer service.
  • Manages suppliers to ensure that the deliveries are on time and according to specifications.
  • Works with customer service to identify opportunities for cost reduction through direct shipments.
  • Full understanding of plant operations to include processing, logistics, production planning and COG's.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal team involvement skills.
  • Highly organized and effective at managing projects and plant objectives for the Materials team at the site.
  • Strong follow-up skills and Analytical approach.
  • Excellent computer skills and understanding of current software applications.
  • English fluency 90% minimum.
